Karate is one of the most effective martial arts that are based on Kihon, Kata, as well as Kumite.
They all play an important role in the formation of a holistic practitioner:

  1. Kihon (基本):  

   Kihon is a term that is classified under karate and it consists of basic movements such as stances, strikes, blocks and kicks..
Therefore, it is crucial to master the kihon techniques because they serve as the basis for further techniques.
One can dedicate many hours to rehearsing these basics to make them as precise, powerful, and efficient as possible.

  1. Kata (形):  

   Kata is also known as forms or patterns which are designed to mimic fight situations.
They are danced individually and all the katas have different rhythms, beats and purpose.
Kata training allows the practitioners to improve their concentration,
stability and also mental strength while at the same time not altering the essence of the techniques.

  1. Kumite (組手):  

   Kumite is a sparring where the technique is being used against an opponent.
It includes regulated, planned practice to actual sparring.
Kumite is practiced for timing, distance and the strategy to give the practitioners real world self defense skills..
kihon, kata, and kumite are the main components of karate, so it is guaranteed that a martial artist will learn the techniques and the philosophy of the martial art.

This makes karate to stand out from other martial arts since it is based on key concepts.
They stress more on the physical, moral, and spiritual development of a person.
Through following of Dojo Kun and the use of five tenets, understanding and learning of the elements of karate,
one will be able to have the true understanding of what karate is all about – the way of improvement and learning.
These are the principles that would help you whether you are a white belt or a black belt in your practice of karate and also as a person.

Karate Techniques

Karate is famous for containing various types of punches, strikes, kicks, and attacks, which are powerful, accurate, and fast.
Even if you are a complete novice or an experienced martial artist,
it would be beneficial for you to learn these moves for the purpose of building skill, confidence and versatility in martial arts.
This section also gives an insight into the basic and the sophisticated moves of karate and also the instruments used in karate.

 Basic Techniques

Thus the basic techniques of karate, otherwise known as Kihon, is the basis of the martial art.
These form the basics of all complex movements and are always done over and over until the physical aspect of form, balance and power are attained.
Below are some of the basic techniques that are considered crucial:

  1. Stances (立ち Tachi):

    Zenkutsudachi (前屈立ち): A fighting stance that is implemented for balance and strength used in striking and blocking movements.

    Kokutsudachi (後屈立ち): A fighting style that allows the user to play defensively and wait to counter his opponent.

    Kibadachi (騎馬立ち): This is a horse stance that is useful in developing the legs and also the balance of the body.

 

  1. Strikes (打ち Uchi):

    Oizuki (追い突き): A lunge punch, one of the most common striking techniques in karate.

    Gyakuzuki (逆突き): a kind of strike, a punch which is swift and strong.

    Shutouchi (手刀打ち): This is a strike using the knife-hand on the opponent’s pressure points such as on the neck or collar bone.
