The 2024 IWKA Isshin-Ryu World Karate Championships took place in Pittsburgh on Saturday,
and a Penn State Karate Club alumni black belt earned a medal at the high-level competition.
Competitors from all over the world competed in different divisions and six black belt fencers earned honorable mentions at the championships.
The 2024 Pittsburgh Championships have come to a close.
The 2024 Pittsburgh Championships marked the beginning of a post-pandemic hiatus,
with the next event scheduled for 2026 in India. PKSC, the oldest university-based martial arts program in the United States,
aims to promote self-defense and physical fitness through the study of traditional Okinawan karate.
PKSC’s advisors with a 10th degree black belt
One of the advisors to PKSC, who holds the rank of 10th degree black belt,
serves as a black belt examiner and visiting instructor.
Two of the medal winners at this year’s IWKA Championships are 6th degree black belts and volunteer as lead instructors teaching PKSC students.
