A Versailles karate instructor is starting a new karate group in the town to unite
the community and improve residents’ fitness and confidence.
Richard Plaskow, co-owner of Hertfordshire KDS,
a 60-year-old not-for-profit global organization, has been running two community karate groups for 18 months.
A relaxed-style karate group
The new group is due to start on September 12, and he says: “A lot of people think karate is noisy,
but we train in a relaxed style and so many of the dudes who just train here are people over 50.
“I have been practicing karate for 16 years and it has helped me get through some tough times,” he said,
adding, “I would recommend it to others because I believe that you get to mental ill-health also through doing physical fitness.
Inter-Collegiate Karate Tournament identifies up-and-coming talent
The Inter-Collegiate Karate Tournament held in Meghalaya
was a great opportunity to spot talented karate prospects,
and it was great to see athletes who were at the junior level just a few years ago at the college
are getting further to experience and put their proficiency on the table at the college level.
It was a testament to the hard work of the athletes and coaches that schools
that are not top ranked karate schools performed so well.
